ROSA INCAICA

Experience the lilting lyricism of the Argentine zamba or the rich rhythm of the chacarera with the intimate and passionate interpretations of ROSA INCAICA! Argentinian guitarist Pablo González Jazey – with his subtle style – and singer Annelise Skovmand – possessor of an expressive, unique vocal timbre – take audiences on a musical journey through Argentina and Latin America with their unique interpretations of traditional and contemporary folk songs from the region. The group's musical expedition combines repertoire rooted in the folk tradition including original compositions with arrangements that broach the classical chamber music world.

ROSA INCAICA began as the Inca Rose Duo undertaking the works of Argentinean classical composers Alberto Ginastera and Carlos Guastavino in their CD Flores Argentinas: “…a delicate and balanced lilt between the traditions of folk and art song,” as described by poet León Benarós. Their musical collaboration began more than a decade earlier with their recording Things We Said Tomorrow - a CD wherein John Dowland and Lennon-McCartney cohabitate in a very exceptional way with a selection of Catalonian folk songs. Now, collaborating with artists from both the folk and classical realms, ROSA INCAICA travels a new path in the field of popular folk music, exploring its own signature sound.  In 2010, along with pianist Pablo Manuel Arroyo, they recorded Cielo y Tierra, nominated for the 2011 Carlos Gardel Music Awards as best folk music album and for Lila as best song.  The same year they released Suite Norteña, recorded with the UCASAL Chamber Orchestra that includes the premiere recording of the second suite for guitar and orchestra by Eduardo Falú and González Jazey's arrangement of Guastavino's song cycle Flores Argentinas for voice, guitar and orchestra.  Their second folk-music recording, Norte was released in 2013 to excellent critical reviews.

In 2018, they released "Pájaros", their second recording featuring song-cycles by Ginastera and Guastavino with original chamber music arrangements.

During the 2018/2019 season, ROSA INCAICA performed with the Orquesta Nacional de Música Argentina (ONMA-National Orchestra for Argentinean Music) in the Centro Cultural Kirchner, participated in the 4th International Jazz Festival of Tucumán with a program celebrating Joni Mitchell and premiered Letra Rebeldes, a song-cycle by Pablo González Jazey on poems by Alfonsina Storni and Miguel Hernández.

During 2020/2021, ROSA INCAICA was invited to perform n the 2nd Virtual Live JoniFest, in the 60th Septiembre Musical Tucumano and performed “A Tribute to Astor Piazzolla” with Orchestra Miami.

ROSA INCAICA has delighted audiences in Argentina, Europe and the United States, presenting programs that celebrate the music from Argentina, including songs by Astor Piazzolla, Atahualpa Yupanqui, Carlo Gardel, Fito Páez, Cuchi Leguizamón, and Eduardo Falú, as well as songs made famous by Mercedes Sosa, the voice of Latin America.

The duo offers lecture-demonstrations and seminars on the history and development of the music (tango & folk) and poetry of Argentina and master classes for voice, guitar and chamber music.
